Wilbur shares I-5 exit 135 with Sutherlin, which makes the shop about one milepost up the freeway — or a couple of minutes on Old Highway 99, which runs right through. For folks in Wilbur, M.D. Automotive is about as close as a real independent shop gets: no franchise counter, no service writer, just Mark working out of the one shop he's run since 1990.
It's an old spot to be this quiet. James Wilbur started a school on his own land here in 1854; chartered as Umpqua Academy in 1857, it was for years the only school of its kind between Salem and Sacramento, and it ran until 1900.
Wilbur and Sutherlin share exit 135, so it is one freeway milepost and a turn — near enough that dropping the car off doesn't need a plan. Old Highway 99 gets you there just as easily without touching I-5.
That's how most Wilbur customers use the shop. Doors are open weekdays 7am–4pm, so it fits either end of a workday. Tell the assistant what the car is doing first and you'll know before you pull in whether it's a fit.
Front-end work and clutches on trucks are the two jobs Mark doesn't take on, and he declines BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Jaguar — a Mini is fine. Everything else, foreign or domestic, car or truck, is fair game.
A fair drive away? Come on by anyway — Mark works out of the one shop, so folks bring their vehicles to him. Just ask the assistant and you'll get the number either way.
